A Green Holiday Event

Recently, I had the opportunity to plan a corporate holiday party for an environmentally conscious corporation. I had to ensure that every detail of this event was eco-friendly to honor the company’s mission for sustainability. I learned so much during this experience including easy and effective ways to plan and host more sustainable events in the future. Below are a few things that I’m happy to share with you!

  1. Look for venues that have green initiatives already in place.
  2. Select a venue that is near public transportation or provide shuttle service to minimize carbon footprint.
  3. When decorating for the event, look to nature! Using organic materials and reusable decor is not only eco friendly but it will also provide a beautiful backdrop for your event.
  4. If you’re using disposable dinnerware, look for biodegradable material like palm leaf or bamboo.
  5. Hire vendors that share the same passion for sustainability.
  6. Partner with local food pantries to donate any leftover food from the event.
  7. Minimize single use plastic or eliminate plastic altogether if you can.
  8. Provide appropriate bins for guests to recycle.
