Recently, I had the opportunity to plan a corporate holiday party for an environmentally conscious corporation. I had to ensure that every detail of this event was eco-friendly to honor the company’s mission for sustainability. I learned so much during this experience including easy and effective ways to plan and host more sustainable events in the future. Below are a few things that I’m happy to share with you!
- Look for venues that have green initiatives already in place.
- Select a venue that is near public transportation or provide shuttle service to minimize carbon footprint.
- When decorating for the event, look to nature! Using organic materials and reusable decor is not only eco friendly but it will also provide a beautiful backdrop for your event.
- If you’re using disposable dinnerware, look for biodegradable material like palm leaf or bamboo.
- Hire vendors that share the same passion for sustainability.
- Partner with local food pantries to donate any leftover food from the event.
- Minimize single use plastic or eliminate plastic altogether if you can.
- Provide appropriate bins for guests to recycle.
